The one-inch filter slot your system came with cannot hold a filter dense enough for haboob season without choking airflow. The fix is a four-or-five-inch media cabinet at the return — MERV-13, six months between changes, and the pressure drop your blower was actually built for. Installed, $680.
Just as important is where the dust gets in: leaky returns pulling from the attic, a door undercut acting as the main return, duct joints open to the crawl. We seal the pathway before we filter the symptom. That order matters and it is cheaper.
What we tell people not to buy
We do not sell ionizers or "plasma" air purifiers. The independent testing on that category ranges from unimpressive to actively concerning, and a $1,200 gadget that does less than a $40 filter is not a product we want our name on. If someone in your house has asthma or COPD, the evidence-backed stack is sealed returns, MERV-13 media, and a portable HEPA unit in the bedroom — and we will say exactly that, including the part where the HEPA unit comes from a big-box store, not from us.
